Michel Seuphor ‘Spectacle à Bâtons’
This wall covering is a fine example of Michel Seuphor’s post war abstract art. Born in Antwerp (Borgerhout) in 1901, Fernand Berckelaers adopted the pseudonym ‘Seuphor’, an anagram for Orpheus, in 1917. He died in 1999.
As an artist Seuphor found acclaim with a large exhibition organised by his friend Jean Arp at the Galerie Berggruen in 1954. Short after he designed this tapestry in 1956.
The wall covering is in excellent condition. It was produced and distributed by Arcade Gallery. It is signed by the artist and numbered 6 of 45.
